How to Protect Your Skin From the Sun
To minimize skin damage from the sun, follow these guidelines, based on the recommendations of the American Cancer Society and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
1/ Long-term exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage your skin. To protect it, stay out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the rays are at their strongest. And remember that clouds don't block UV rays.
2/ Seek shade when you're outdoors.
3/ Wear a hat, preferably with a 4-inch brim all around, to effectively cover your face, neck and ears.
Step
4
Wear long sleeves and long pants, making sure they're made of tightly woven fabrics.
5/ Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 every day to help protect against incidental sun exposure; reapply it after swimming or sweating.
6/ Keep in mind that a typical T-shirt has a lower SPF than the American Cancer Society recommends, so you'll still need to apply sunscreen to areas the T-shirt covers.
7/ Be aware that ultraviolet rays generally reflect off water, sand, snow and any light-colored surface, such as concrete; be diligent in applying sunscreen when you're around these surfaces.
8/ Remember that some ultraviolet radiation will penetrate water and windows, so you always need protection.
9/ Avoid indoor sunlamps and tanning beds, since they can be more harmful to your skin than the sun.

Green tea can help block the sun whether you drink it or apply it directly to the skin. Whenever you are going out for some sun, mix up green tea in a spray bottle and before you go outside spray it on your face or body.

Tips on preventing skin cancer
* Avoid the sun, especially from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., when the sun's rays are the strongest.
* Don't use tanning booths or sunlamps.
* Wear protective clothing and a hat whenever you go outside. Remember that you are often exposed to the sun while driving, especially your hands and arms.
* Wear sunglasses that wrap and are rated to block at least 99% of UVA sunlight.
* Check your skin yourself every month for signs of skin cancer.
* If you see an area on your skin that looks unusual, ask your family doctor about it.
What's the best way to do a skin self-examination?
Head
The best way is to use a full-length mirror and a hand-held mirror to check every inch of your skin.
1. First, you need to learn where your birthmarks, moles and blemishes are and what they usually look like. Check for anything new, such as a change in the size, texture or color of a mole, or a sore that doesn't heal.
Mirror
2. Look at the front and back of your body in the mirror, then raise your arms and look at the left and right sides.
3. Bend your elbows and look carefully at your palms and forearms, including the undersides, and your upper arms.
4. Check the back and front of your legs.
5. Look between your buttocks and around your genital area.
Sitting
6. Sit and closely examine your feet, including the bottoms of your feet and the spaces between your toes.
7. Look at your face, neck and scalp. You may want to use a comb or a blow dryer to move hair so that you can see better.
By checking yourself regularly, you'll get familiar with what's normal for you. If you find anything unusual, see your doctor. The earlier skin cancer is found, the better.

What does a normal mole look like?
A normal mole is solid tan, brown, dark brown or flesh colored. Its edges are well-defined. It's usually smaller than 1/4 inch in diameter and has a round or oval shape. It should be flat or dome-like.

Informative tips for skin..The point which I want to add is regarding to clothes.I think that one should wear protective clothing during peak times of the day. Clothes should have tight weaves. Cotton T-shirts are only equivalent to a SPF-6 lotion.

We use a sunscreen with an SPF 45 and a good Bimini. Before we got the Bimini, we sailed for a few hours before we were exhausted. With a good Bimini, we will all day.
